Welcome to The Gypsy Caravan, I'm Shan...
Once upon a time, there was a little girl who wanted to be a dancer. She practiced and took many lessons with various studios through the years. She competed in many competitions and even had the opportunity to go overseas to dance, but the one thing she loved more than dancing was makeup! “Hi, I’m Shan, and my life, is kind of crazy!”

Dancing did indeed open my world to stage makeup. I played around with different looks and styles to match my various dance costumes and this is where it all began for me.

I started working as an official makeup artist when I joined MAC in the August of 2015. I worked in the Sandton Edgars store as a PPT for a few months before transferring to the Eastgate Edgars branch the following March of 2016. There, I got promoted to an FTE position and received all of my on counter certifications.

The following year in January 2017 I became the Product Specialist for my counter. This essentially enabled me to really pursue what I enjoy the most and that is teaching Product Knowledge and imparting new makeup skills and techniques to my co workers and customers. I enjoy teaching and helping people to learn and grow their makeup skills. I want to show people that makeup isn't as intimidating as it seems and that everyone can achieve that smokey eye or create glowy skin like Kim Kardashian. Makeup is for everyone and I want people to feel beautiful inside and out!
The amount of knowledge and experience I have is insurmountable as I have worked with many customers, fashion designers and models since MAC was exposed to the Fashion Industry. I have had the incredible opportunity to work on a variety of events and fashions shows throughout my time at MAC and being a Makeup artist. I also had the opportunity to participate in the makeup events team for renowned South African designers such as David Tlale, Marianne Fassler and Vivier. I also had the great opportunity to bring all that I have learned to my artists on counter and teach the new trends through the art of makeup in the store and hosted makeup classes for MAC Cosmetics. Fast forward to July 2019, and I became the Assistant Manager at the East Rand Mall counter, and was there for a short while before jetting off to become an international travelling makeup artist and touring assistant for a Production Company. Don't Worry I am still local but travel a couple times through out the year!

My name is Shanice Johnston. I live in Johannesburg South Africa and I love makeup! I am a professional freelance makeup artist that specializes in all events and occasions, I was apart of the Events team representing MAC in Johannesurg. I am a Bohemian gypsy by heart and love all things vintage. I currently am trying to build up my Youtube channel so please head over and subscribe! Naturally I am in love with all things weird and wonderful and my makeup style does not stem far from it. I am all about fun and having fun. I am super awkward but if I can make you laugh while teaching you how to do a banging cut crease – then I consider it a job well done. Makeup doesn’t have to be serious, just have fun with it and let go! I love life and want you to be apart of it.
